Sleepy Owl is a browser extension that puts idle tabs to sleep to save memory. It does not collect, store or transmit any personal data.
What stays on your device
- Your settings (idle time, exceptions and your list of sites that should never sleep) are saved in Chrome's extension storage. If you use Chrome sync, Chrome may sync these settings between your own devices.
- When each tab was last used is kept in memory for the current browser session only, to decide which tabs are idle.
- A count of tabs put to sleep is stored locally to show you statistics.
- Page content. Only if you turn on the optional "unsaved form text" check, Sleepy Owl looks at a page right before it would sleep to see whether a form contains typed text. The result (yes/no) is used immediately and the text itself is never stored or sent.
What is sent over the network
Nothing. Sleepy Owl makes no network requests of its own: no analytics, no tracking, no ads, no remote code.
Permissions
"Tabs" lets the extension see each tab's address and state (pinned, playing audio) to decide whether it may sleep. "Storage" saves your settings. "Alarms" runs the idle check once a minute. "Context menus" adds the right-click actions. "Scripting" and access to websites are only used, and only requested, for the optional form check.
