Get Notified When a Website Changes (Free, No Account)
Waiting for an appointment slot, a price drop, a new listing or an exam result? Instead of checking the page over and over, you can let your browser watch it for you and alert you when something changes.
Cloud monitors vs. a browser extension
Cloud services check pages from their own servers and email you. They're great for public pages, but they can't see anything behind your login, they usually need an account, and the free tiers check rarely. A browser extension checks the page in your own browser, with your own session, so it works on logged-in pages and nothing leaves your machine.
Set up an alert with Refresh Owl
- Open the page you want to watch and click the Refresh Owl icon.
- Choose how often to check, for example every 5 minutes.
- Open Watch for text & alert me and type what you're waiting for, such as Available, In stock or Appointment. Put several words on separate lines; any one of them triggers the alert.
- Click Start refreshing and allow access to that one site when Chrome asks.
When the text shows up you get a desktop notification and a red badge on the icon. With Pro you can also play a sound and stop refreshing automatically on a match, so the page stays exactly as it was when the alert fired.
Three alert types
- Text appears (free): fires when any of your words show up.
- Text disappears (Pro): fires when words like Sold out or No slots available go away. Often more reliable than guessing the exact wording that will appear.
- Any change (Pro): fires when the visible text of the page changes at all.
Tips for fewer false alarms
- Watch for a phrase that only appears in the state you care about, not a word that's also in the menu.
- Use Match case if the page shows the same word in different places with different capitalisation.
- Don't refresh faster than you need to. Every 1–5 minutes is plenty for most pages and is polite to the site.
